School places bill for Bristol Council up to £2.5m

The bill for providing extra classrooms in Bristol’s schools to ensure there are enough places for all the city’s four-year-olds in September has rocketed to nearly £2.5 million.

This is in addition to more than £1.5m spent by the city council to cope with the crisis last year.

The escalating costs mean the authority will have to delay some longer-term plans to rebuild primary schools to meet the short-term needs for reception class places.
